Sweet Jam x Baby’s Nightlight
With the baby 3 months away, the creative furnace has been burning oil at a much higher clip. I had found a really cool cardboard box while traveling in Vietnam, saw it in a store display and said out loud, “this will become a lamp”. My sister can bare witness to those events. I brought it back to Canada, made some alterations and install some lighting hardware from everyone’s favourite Swedish superstore and voilà, we have one int’l night light for the baby’s room.
While I was in the middle of its construction, my friend Rob informed me of a cute little design round-up over at Ottawa’s newest shit-hot store/gallery, Canteen.
SWEET JAM! A new monthly design throwdown. Artist, designers, architects and the creatively-inclined are invited to submit their creations. The inaugural challenge was: make lamp bulb covering.
As fate would have it, the only requirement was to use the exact same Ikea lighting hardware I was using. No-brainer in my books, the baby’s lamp was going in.
Check out the flickr set for some sugary works from some talented Ottawa folk. I was lucky to share the honours with another artist to take the “Fan Favourite” award. A cold bottle of “50″ goes to me!
Sweet Jam, you goddam right!
